First... WMD was a lame excuse to go kill Hussein anyway...it was a diversion, and you are still getting diverted. Bush is a good politician, whether you agree with him or not.
-Some facts that I do not think are arguable: -We know he had chem/bio in the 80's, the US probably gave him the tech even. -We know he still considered himself at war with the US. -Saudi Arabia wanted US troops off their soil, and so did Bin Laden. -Hussein was financing Palestinian terrorism. -The Israeli/Palestinian issue is the number most visible roadblock to getting cooperation of the Arabs in tracking down terrorists. Given those facts, the US could not ignore Hussein. He was a credible threat. What were the non-war options? Go to the UN and try and isolate him further? I do not think that would have been effective. He had Syria on his side. Direct negotiations? Not a chance. They probably tried and failed in secret. Even if Bush didn't follow my chain of reasoning, it all adds up to the same thing in the end.
