Of course this is slanted all to hell as it is.

Much of it is true, but most of it is presented in the worst light.

Reading this you may think that Apple invented window systems (they
didn't), that IE was a poor browser (it wasn't), that MS has never
innovated (it has) and that Gate's Foundation has done no good (it has).

Also the "class" of software talk is just ridiculous: Word was copy of
WordPerfect? Word was released for Windows when WordPerfect was still a
(very nice) DOS-based app. Are all word processors "Copies"? Was
WordPerfect a copy of my beloved TI-Writer?

The Foundation information is most interesting to me: he seems to forget
the basis of organization. The Foundation was set up by Bill (and is
run by his father) to be profitable. The fact that it took more in from
interest than it gave out in grants fits perfectly with the charter of
the organization.

The foundation doesn't, as a rule, give humanitarian grants; it invests
it humanitarian-minded (mostly) technology ventures. For example the
foundation funds research into cheaper inoculation methods. This
research has great humanitarian potential but is definitely an
investment, not a gift.

Am I defending MS and Bill? Perhaps - but only to the middle ground.

MS is a corporation that has proven it's willing to use uncompetitive
practices to maintain its dominance (and this only because they beat
several other companies for the honor - including IBM, Sun and Apple).
It needs to be dealt with.

But half-truths and unwarranted vilification need to be challenged.
