Do not pity me or my comerades, if anything pity the person who has no one
that is willing to stand up for their right to spit in the face of their
protector. Pity those who are thankful for a crum of toast given them by
their government because they're not allowed to grow their own food. Pity
those who are persecuted because they are not allowed to speak their mind,
worship their God or own their homes.

I joined the service (Navy) for two of the reasons you mentioned below.
However, it was my decision to enlist and one I made willingly. We no
longer have a draft so that those who are not willing or cannot for
whaterver reason (religous, physical, etc) cannot enlist do not have to.

Feh, Remember Vietnam... and those who cursed their contrymen for going to
war for another people's freedom.

I pity the Americans who have served and sometimes died for our country. I
think they're often put in harms way needlessly. I wish none of them would
have died for anyone's agenda. I don't "respect" them simply because they
are military. People join the military for a multitude of reasons, many of
which have nothing to do with noble causes. People join the military to get
away from their parents (my dad), to escape looming debt (a good friend), to
make money for college (lots), etc. None of those reasons has anything to do
with patriotism. Does that garner my respect? No.
