<cf_rant>
I am currently watching Big Brother 4 in the UK. I like the accents, and
I've learned some cool slang terms and phrases. (admittedly, I don't
leave the office much). It's also just something to have on in the
background while working.

They have a website that accompanies the show.
http://channel4.com/bigbrother/

It hardly ever freaking works! And the times it does, 50% of that time
is spent waiting for the pages to load! We're on a 2MB cable connection
that is running at an average of 4MB, so it isn't us.

It's built in JSP. I believe the DB is Oracle. (one of the DB admins (?)
is on the UK list[I have not sent this to him asking why, as he hates
BB])

The excuse is likely too much traffic. TOO MUCH TRAFFIC??????? Bah.

The next rant is about Big Brother South Africa. Now I only know of this
show, because they are trading one of the UK contestants for a south
African one for a week. So off I wander to check out BBSA's website.
Written in ASP.

Guess what?

It's FREAKING SLOW. MUCH MUCH slower than the UK. Is it getting a ton of
hits right now? Likely. They've just announced all this in the past day
or so, so the attention is at full swing. There's also apparently some
sex going on in the SA house, so people are trying to see what's going
on. I haven't even delved deeper to see where the SA site is hosted. I
understand bandwidth out of Africa might not be so hot to trot ...

The real reason for this ranting?

The next time someone says CF can't scale or CF is slow, they can go
stick a ramrod up their butt, because there's bad programmers and
technologies and hardware configurations EVERYWHERE. Even when the
company apparently has tons of dosh. (you don't even want to know how
much BB3 made Channel 4 last year here in the UK)

</cf_rant>

You guys know about that last line anyway ... But now I feel better ;)

Muffin anyone?

Cheers,
Erika
