Well, Quicktime Pro allows you to produce panoramic views of rooms. You can
get that for under $50 and, along with a digital camera, make something nice
for people to look at. 

As for floor plans, I always use Illustrator because it is so bleeding
simple but you may have other preferences. The bottom line is you need a
vector based program that allows you to construct precise diagrams. Flash
also has this capability, although it is not exceptional.

Pen and Bar napkin, scan is pretty quick...
