KL murder: Suspect may be a serial rapist PETALING JAYA - The man suspected of having murdered Mrs Canny Ong Lay
Kian, the Malaysian IT analyst who was abducted at a shopping mall earlier this month, is now being linked to several other rape and murder cases. Police also no longer believe that Mrs Ong was murdered because she resembled her killer's intended target. Nanyang Siang Pau reported yesterday that police officers investigating the case that has gripped Malaysia were almost certain that the 27-year-old suspect had concocted the story of a mistaken abduction. The report said police are also now taking a second look at other rape cases that have been reported in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor in the past few months on the suspicion that the man, who was arrested last Friday, could be involved. The Chinese-language newspaper reported that a key finding, during a search of the suspect's house, was a bag containing several items such as condoms, strong adhesive tape, a knife, a pair of scissors and a folded 2m long cardboard. The police believe that the suspect kept the bag by his side while he was on the prowl. The strong adhesive tape could have been used to bind hands and feet, police said, while the cardboard could have been used as a cushion on the ground. The knife and the pair of scissors, they suspect, could have been used to threaten the victims and to cut the adhesive tape. In the case that has made headlines in Malaysia, the man who is yet to be named was arrested a few days after a badly-burnt body of a woman was found in a culvert. It had been slashed all over, the skull was fractured and both the legs had been cut off. It was thought to be the body of Mrs Ong, 28, who had disappeared after she went to retrieve a parking ticket after a dinner with her family and friends. While the identity of the body will only be confirmed today after the release of DNA tests, it is almost certain that it was Mrs Ong, according to a police source quoted by Nanyang Siang Pau. The suspect had told the police that he murdered the victim after abducting her because she bore a close resemblance to his former employer whom he was angry with over an as-yet-undisclosed matter. He said he soon realised that he had made a mistake but decided to rape her after being struck by her good looks. Yesterday, police led him to identify locations where Mrs Ong is thought to have been abducted and murdered. He was also taken to her car and to a petrol station where he is believed to have bought fuel to burn the victim, said the Bernama report. Police investigations have also shown that the man was a frequent visitor at brothels. His wife has told police that while he would normally return home at about 9pm, there would be one day per week when he would return home early in the morning. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?forumid=5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/index.cfm?method=subscribe&forumid=5 This list and all House of Fusion resources hosted by CFHosting.com.
