The law is designed to prevent Palestinians (who want their own state) from
marrying Israelis (who have their own state) and becoming a member of the second
state. This does not prevent such marriages but limits the ability of the
non-Israeli partner from gaining Israeli citizenship.
This is much better than the laws that totally prevent people from one
nation/group from marrying people from another. Such laws exist in other
countries that neighbor the state in question. (i.e. it is illegal for a Jew to
marry an Arab in many (most?) Arab countries, something that doesn't garner the
same ire as the new Israeli law)

" (IsraelNN.com) The Knesset yesterday passed the controversial Citizenship Law
by a 53-25 vote. The law is intended to limit the number of PA residents
eligible for citizenship or residency permits inside Green Line Israel.

Proponents of the law explain they were compelled to support it due to the
security considerations involved.

Opponents of the law called it racist and reject any attempt to legitimize it
by citing security concerns.

MK (Taal) Ahmed Tibi, a close confidant of Yasser Arafat, announced he plans to
challenge the law in the High Court. "
