I find it odd that the business owners and the restaurant association
seem to disagree with the government...

Personally, I'd believe just about anyone before I believed a
department of health's study about economic impact of anything.

LCL> (CNSNews.com) - A study released by the New York City Department of Health
LCL> concludes that the city's four-month-old ban of smoking at restaurants and
LCL> bars has had no negative economic results. However, a spokesman for the New
LCL> York State Restaurant Association maintains government should "butt out"
LCL> when it comes to the issue of smoking.

LCL> The study, based on data from the New York Department of Labor, found that
LCL> seasonally adjusted employment in the city's restaurants and bars grew by
LCL> 0.9 percent between March and June of this year, compared to 0.2 percent in
LCL> the same period last year.

LCL> The study also noted that restaurant and bar employment grew faster than
LCL> the 0.1 percent overall job growth the city experienced since the
LCL> smoke-free law took effect.

LCL> Ergo no detrimental effects of banning smoking have been found so far.
