I have a feeling that it garners that sort of reaction is because he
(not being intelligent) succeeds FAR more than anyone else around him
who has more brain cells

For the sake of some of the situations, it works well, but then it's
just taken too far at points

He might be the poster-child for "you don't have to be smart to do well"
in a fictional sort of way, but it's almost as though "if you're smart,
then this idiot will do better than you"
