I haven't read the book or seen the movie for at least 4 or so years, so 
you'll have to excuse me if I'm a little vague...

What it boiled down to was the message that Forrest was "good", and 
Jenny was "bad".  Jenny only became "good" after she married Forrest, 
then promptly died, because if you're conflicted, complex and make bad 
choices in life, you don't really deserve to live, now do you?  I had my 
problems with the book as well, but I think the movie missed the 
undercurrent of Groom's commentary on things, and instead opted for the 
easy way out.

I'm definitely going to read/watch it again - I need to re-familiarize 
myself with the specifics before I start talking in circles.  In 
circles.  In circles.  :)
