We stopped using the plastic nails, Snoopy just started chewing them off as soon as we put them on - they just don't work as the cats naturally will try to remove anything that's "uncomfortable" for them, and these alter the weight of the paw I now try to regularly trim his nails, but occasionally forget for a while, and the problem is that he likes to "sneak attack" both us and the dogs - this includes sneaking up and bapping us with his claws out - the dogs yelp and he runs, but he does occasionally draw blood from us He is usually fine, but now and again gets it into his head that he's gonna be a little bastard - when I pick him up he's ALL claws, which means that I end up with scratches all over my hands and arms We don't let any other cats into the garden when our animals are out, and we're always there when Snoopy's out, so he'll NEVER get into a scrap (as he's a complete wimp anyways, he'd run rather than fight) What you've got to remember is that people say that cats need their claws to protect themselves, but if you clip them, then you're removing that defense anyways - a filed-down, blunted claw is completely useless as a weapon, think of getting into a fight with a butter knife <g> People have mentioned infections, well if you cut a claw badly, then you can hit the vein - if they go outside and tread in something, then they're gonna get an infection from that So either you leave your cat's claws intact and let it sort out the lengths, but in doing so you have to put up with the scratching, or you do something to "trim" the claws, whether it's very regular trimming or you get them removed... Just some thoughts... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm?link=t:5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm?link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5 This list and all House of Fusion resources hosted by CFHosting.com.
