That depends on your Hosts file on your web server. I use the IP number and a unique port number in ColdFusion Administrator - Data sources. This also is the method I set up when others rent database space from me, and run their own machines elsewhere.
There is a variety of ways to connect on a local network, you can even use mapped drives. With Enterprise manager, I also use the IP number of the database server. This saves the inherent problems with DNS resolving a single machine name, when Active directory is NOT being used. ====================================== Stop spam on your domain, use our gateway!
