According to HYPERLINK "http://www.iraqbodycount.net"www.iraqbodycount.net, there are a minimum of 6131 and a maximum of 7849 reported civilian deaths in Iraq due to the war. They don't list troop deaths on the site as far as I can see. -----Original Message----- From: Kevin Graeme [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 23 September 2003 13:05 To: CF-Community Subject: Re: Anybody see.. Breaking the Silence Same with Iraq. How many have died? Most people will look at the ~300 US troops and disregard the approximately 6,000 civilians. And 6,000 is on the low end of the numbers I've seen. The larger numbers may or may not also include Iraqi troo ps, but in my mind they are still casualties. -Kevin ----- Original Message ----- From: Adam Reynolds To: CF-Community Sent: Tuesday, September 23, 2003 3:47 AM Subject: RE: Anybody see.. Breaking the Silence I found the statement on Vietnam very profound. "Ask an American how many people died in Vietnam and they usually reply 58,000 (or there abouts)." They ignore the Vietnamese deaths (around 3 million). The program implied this is specifically down to US government propoganda. -----Original Message----- From: Wayne Putterill [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 23 September 2003 09:02 To: CF-Community Subject: RE: Anybody see.. Breaking the Silence I saw it, a very powerful documentary that should be seen by everyone who votes whether in the UK or the USA. -----Original Message----- From: Adam Reynolds [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 22 September 2003 23:57 To: CF-Community Subject: Anybody see.. Breaking the Silence Breaking the Silence - A Special Report by John Pilger Documentary by war correspondent John Pilger investigating George Bush`s `war on terror`. Covering events in America, Afghanistan and Iraq, the programme suggests that the US has waged a `cynical` war, and its motives are quite different to those that have been publicised since 11 September 2001. http://itv.utvinternet.com/listings/viewprogramme.asp?prognum=1324147&it vreg ion=london&itvpackage=at&itvgenre=2&episode=1&scheduleid=31455158&channe ldat e=22/09/2003&channelid=LON Wow is this stuff scary. What it basically came down to was that the world would effectively divide into two super powers, USA and 'Public Opinion' and what in effect is currently happening in the US(and to some degree the UK), is that government is subverting public opinion away from the truth to enable it to achieve its objectives. It also implied the US was moving towards a pre-fascist state (some people were even concerned the US was already there). It really piqued my interest. It even implied that the US would not have gone to war with Iraq had the US press actually taken a more critical line and had not just towed the line. Well at least in the UK, Blair is probably going to commit political suicide over the Hutton enquiry. Adam~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~|
