When considering contracts - Education is not always even asked about.

For instance, I just won a 70K gig, and the decision to go with me was my
answers to one of the many questions.

Scenario:  This is a manufacturing company with plants in three different
locations, and the administrative offices in a forth location.  The connectivity
between the plants and general offices is via dedicated connections.

The existing manufacturing process accounting application is currently run in
DOS, originally using Clipper database.  The person who had written the original
software and maintained it for 19 years now wants to retire.  In the
conversation, the subject came up about converting the application to a visual
product.

During the telephone conference call interview, I was asked what I thought the
trends of this type of application was being developed and run on.

While I have long experience in Visual FoxPro Applications, my answer was that
the trend was toward intranet/extranet, with all data entry, reports, inventory
control etc. were accessible via a web browser, and protected via password and
group policy for security.  This would allow them to discontinue the dedicated
connection and subscribe to simple DSL connections.  An instant savings of over
$50k per year, it seems.

They told me, well, that is an interesting idea, we will get back to you.

One week later, I was contacted and awarded a contract to convert the processing
accounting to an extranet, utilizing a SQL2k database, and ColdFusionMX as the
markup language.  This project will utilize one part time network engineer, and
4 CF developers, with me as project manager.  The estimated delivery time is 1/2
of the estimate to convert the applications to Visual FoxPro and interface with
the Corporate payroll and account system, which happens to use SQL2k as its
database.

I was never asked about education, or even internet experience, and am told that
I was selected from 12 candidates.  I have met none of them face to face yet,
however, that will eventually take place when I present the prototype
