Are you looking at federal government only? Our office supports county
extension agents in Wisconsin. Each county has their own IT budget. (That
means some have a budget for IT and some don't.) The managed LANs typically
are W2K with IE5.5. The majority of non-managed network offices are whatever
Dell is selling today. And then there are the offices that can't afford a
new computer and take whatever handouts they can get, and the whole office
shares a single phone line for a modem.
We did send out inventory software periodically, and this is the most recent
information back so far:
Web browser Count Percentage
Internet Explorer 4.x 1 0%
Internet Explorer 5.x 199 38%
Internet Explorer 6.x 288 55%
Netscape 4.x 3 1%
Netscape 6.x 10 2%
Netscape 7.x 9 2%
(We'll see how that transfers through Mike's html munger.)
