When I was in college, I did a lot of D & D type gaming. After one very
late night session in the middle of a very cold Manitoba winter I was
walking back to my apartment when I noticed that this head kept popping out
from between two buildings about a half block a head of me. Like a genius I
decided to ignore it, and not do the wise thing - take a different route
back or cross the road at least. Anyhow I got up to that point and two guys
jumped out at me. One of them grabbed me by my collar and demanded all my
money. Guy #2 had a bottle of very cheap Rye that was about 1/4 full. They
were both quite drunk. Actually the guy with the bottle was having a lot of
problems standing.
Anyhow I said that I was a student and didn't have any money. Guy #2 took
offense at this and swung the bottle at my head. I was able to block the
blow with my arm. The first guy saw this and let me go. He pointed at the
other guy and said "Don't do that, its not nice." I immediately took off
running. Its amazing how fast you can go. When I glanced behind me - the
two so-called muggers were standing in the middle of the street yelling at
each other.
In a way its a good thing those two geniuses were so inept. Earlier that
night I had cashed a 500 check and had all that money on me.
