Neo killed Smith, because after Smith assimilated Neo, the Source was
able to delete Smith. Smith, according to the Oracle, came about as a
balance to Neo. His complete Opposite, but one which got out of control
and became more powerful than it should.
When there was no Neo..there was no need for a Smith, and the Source
could gain control and directly delete it's rogue program through the
link with Neo.
Neo touched the 'Source'. This seems to have enabled him to affect
machines that have a connection to the source: The Sentinels and all the
other machines. Humans jacked into the matrix contain bio-mechanical
augmentations to enable them to maintain this Brain-Machine connection
through which the Matrix experience is transferred to their biological
minds. Neo was able to operate this connection without needing to be
hardwired into the matrix. He could only 'see' machinery that was
connected to the Source, or which came from it after he lost his
physical sight.
The little girl is supposedly the next 'One'. In the end of the movie
the Oracle looks at the sunrise and asks Sati if she did that. Sati
replies in the affirmative. Only someone with Neo's powers can effect
such things in the Matrix.
Sati is a product of the union between a human and a program. (a woman
and a sentinel got it on or something I guess..dunno really...).
This is from the conversation between Neo and the Sati's parents in the
Train Station in limbo (Mobil = Limbo).
An explanation of the exiled program, Sati's purpose, is with the
Buddhist definition of the word, which most directly equates to
'Conscience'. Through Sati a Buddhist believes we keep our minds in the
present, ever watchful of evil slipping past our defences and keeping
our path true to the way. Thus Sati could indeed be the next 'One' .
Meant to constantly hold the Matrix true to it's new promise. When one
meditates and leaves onself, Sati holds us true to the present when we
return to ourselves.Sati is memory of the past, but only to better
understand and see the Present. Sati is the experience one feels having
understood questions posed by existence, having retrieved from memory
the solution, and having solved the problem to understand the Present.
It represents another otherwise disparate bit of philosophy which the
Wachowski brothers inserted into the 'story' of the Matrix.
The programs and people assimilated by Smith were released (Repaired?)
when the Smith 'virus' was destroyed.
Neo's 'code' was reinserted into the Matrix which was recreated, as the
Architect predicted.
But it all did not happen 'How' he thought it would.
This new Matrix is better than the last. The anomalies now have a place
to go, and the 'problem' of anomalies existing within the Matrix has
been solved. Those humans who wish to leave the Matrix can do so, whilst
those who wish to stay can stay. As the Architect said in part two, each
successive version is supposed to be better than the first. And thus we
can see that this Matrix may be near perfect simply by allowing humans
to escape and form their alternate society if they so desire.
Things turned out just as they should have, and just as the Oracle and
the Architect knew they eventually would. There was no other possible
outcome. But the How is what neither of them could know.
We also see that there exists above the layer of chemicaly induced
darkness, sunlight. The machines could therefore (maybe with abit of
help) create machines which fly above the cloud layer to collect energy
from sunlight. With enough refinement this would remove their need to
depend on humans being trapped in the Matrix, though the matrix could
never be completely destroyed since there would be generations of humans
who prefer existence within it, rather than the less than optimal
existence without.

I saw the new Matrix movie today.
What is everyone's thoughts?
While I enjoyed it, I don't know if I understood everything. I think
my
questions may start to get nit-picky though. I think all the mumbo
jumbo about choice from the second movie has me doubting what I
actually
got out of the second.
How did Neo kill Smith? Why does Neo have power in the real world?
Why
was Smith able to get into the "real world"? What did the little girl
have
to do with anything? If the Matrix just started up again at the end of
movie... are all the humans hooked into it? Or did Smith end up killing
them all? Or was all this part of the plan from the beginning?
I couldn't figure out what the "cost" that the Oracle paid for helping
Morpheus, Neo, and company was, but after researching some reviews on
the
web I realized this was to cover up the replacement of the actor who
died. ( I didn't even notice )
