- Check all connections and make sure they are snug. Sounds to me like it can't talk to a piece of hardware it knows is there.
- Check to make sure BIOS configuration corresponds to the reality of your setup. Set BIOS to automatically detect hard drives and see if this results in a change in your BIOS configuration. If so, why?
- If you have an extra hard drive try swapping it in to see if that helps
