The visuals make you feel as though you're right in the movie Fast and
Furious. The effect of motion blur and camera shake is used to great
effect and you actually FEEEL that you're going fast regardless of the
framerate of the computer.
They mimic the visual cues your eyes and body take from the environment
when you're blazing at 200Km/h down a street. The tunnel vision..the
streaking and blurring of everything at the side of you..the rapid
shaking of the car..it's all there. The effect that you get when you
punch NOS is nearly identical to the effect from Fast and Furious.
Gameplay wise, it's pretty solid, but its definitely an arcade racer and
nothing more. I won't even say it has as much depth as Need for Speed
Porsche Unleashed. Sure you can 'customise' your car by buying new
parts, but you can't adjust your suspension....tune your gear ratio..or
anything that deep. You can swap in and out 'kits' and every level 2 kit
gives the same performance as every other level 2 kit. What' sdifferent
are the manufacturer names.
You can even paint and decorate your car outrageously with vinyls,
decals...you choose rims that match those you can buy precisely. Roof
scoops,spoilers..... if you've seen it on a car and it's popular chances
are its modelled in the game :-)
So far NFS:U has been a darn thrilling ride for me! I've read that the
Xbox version is the best.
