I do however think the teacher might have thought that the child had used the word "gay" in a different (non-homosexual) context.  Like, the teachers are gay.  Or..My friend is a gay-wad.  Or this computer is gay.  And maybe that's why she told him not to use that word again.  I mean, I tend to use gay in a derogatory manner, (i gave u a few examples above), and it is in fact used as a bad word.  Something close to "sucks", but maybe a little worse.  After thinking more about it, I think that's what the story really is.  The teacher misunderstood the child.  And the ACLU misunderstood the teacher.

I think it's an overreaction on the ACLU's part to have the school apologize to his MOTHER.
