sure, you could have a regular machine.  you'd also need a 2nd phone line tho, right?  

i've been using e-fax for a couple of years now.  well worth the $9.95/month IMO.  don't have to worry about the hassle of a 2nd phone line, maintaining a fax machine, and I can get/view my faxes from any location via web browser thru my web email interface.  

just my $0.02.  if i get any change back, just send to my paypal account.

  doesn't require a faxmodem, just an e-mail account, can send to a fax
  machine or e-mail, comes straight to your inbox.
