Are you talking about the hourly rate? I've known many that made $75 an
hour or more (I actually ask $100/hr) - but that's always short term
contracting, never full time.
It's nice if you can get it as a little extra income (I don't anymore) but
if you're living completely off of it you'll need to make $75/hour or more
to pull down a decent yearly salary since you're not working half the time.

I think we would all prefer to be working for $75/hr. But the problem with
the $75/hour work, is you have to get it.

I think 'better' in this case doesn't mean 'back to full health', but
rather better in comparison to where it's been. I know too many (good)
programmers who are (still) out of work.
On this list alone I think we've been seeing more and more job postings
coming in...more people getting interviews, and more people getting jobs.
Doesn't mean the economy (the IT sector, specifically) is "healed". But
it *is* better than it was before, I think.

two days
on the job hunt and I've already got an interview scheduled at one
company
and my resume forwarded to upper level managemnt at another company.
The last time I was on the job hunt (summer 2001) I spent three
months out
of work and the one job (except the current job) that got to the
negotiation
point offered me peanuts to move to a podunk town in the middle of
Texas.
