Subject: America gone off the deep end of paranoia

Better watch what you buy, folks, or at least not look nervous while you
ask for it. The front lines of the war on terror are apparently being
fought by software clerks according to the tale of one woman in Colrain,
MA (second story).
The woman, an Air Force Reserve pilot, attempted to buy a commercial
flight sim for her 10 year old kid and was told by the nervous Staples
clerk that it was illegal for her to purchase one. What's more, is that
the clerk then proceeded to call the cops who then showed up at her
house to investigate the situation!
Olearcek said the trooper asked her if she had inquired about the
software, and she said she had and showed him her military
identification.
"He was totally understanding, but protocol means he has to follow
through," Olearcek said. "I immediately gave him my military ID and I
had no problem giving it to him. At first I felt like, 'Wait a minute,
this is America.' But we also have to understand it takes everybody to
pay attention. At first I was a little frazzled with someone knocking on
my window at 8:30 at night, but the bottom line is this is a civilian
who has tried to do his best."

I find it sad this woman 'accepts' this level of Paranoia as normal.
I guess if she wasn't military she would accept being hauled down to the
station until she could *prove her innocence*.
Would also be interesting to know what the woman's ethnicity was.
