If you are rethinking your mail solution, why limit yourself to just change the mail reader?
The solution I prefer is to move all the mail to a mail server and use IMAP. Put some webmail application on the server too and your email is accessible from everywhere. For your regular email client use either Outlook (not Express, Express can't filter IMAP folders) or Thunderbird (doesn't do Exchange Calendar integration).
