I thought I had found something from the w3c discussion list, but it didn't

Well since at least 90% of the audience will be IE...(sigh).

After your message I finally gave up and used tables. It took a minute to do
something that I was banging my head against all day to do in CSS and have
consistent in various browsers.

BTW, IMO the CSS support in DWMX2004 is absolutely horrible. It can handle a
lot more styles, but the wysiwyg editor never ever ever puts the class on
the right item. And it will let you assign classes that it shouldn't due to
specificity rules. And cutting an object from a table makes the entire table
disappear. And...
