Typically the choice comes down to an individual authorized to act in an
official capacity inside the company, i.e. a business manager, sales
manager, partner, etc. Otherwise the choice of a registered agent could
include an accountant or lawyer, and the terms under which this occurs
varies from state to state. You may need to establish the type of
relationship between the agent and the company within your articles of
incorporation in some states (i.e. that it is acceptable to use legal
counsel as an agent).

People have been know to use relatives as their agents, but this
practice is strongly advised against if for no other reason than because
that person has no fiduciary interest at stake with the company.

Remember, I know some big words, but you are always better served by
speaking with an attorney.

Subject: Registered Agents

A question for all you self-employed people with Corps or LLC's in
another state (or in your own state) ...

Who do you use as a registered agent? (those of you who use yourself
need not answer this question - thanks :D)

I need to hire one for one of our companies in NJ, and before I go and
just pick one off the net (Google "registered agent") ... I was looking
for a recommendation....

Cheers,
Erika
