I am told that the neurotransmitters involved are similar to those involved in LSD trips. FWIW. The person who told me this was not a doctor. I do however find this believable: when I was talking SSRIs I found my dreams to slightly more technicolor, and had trouble getting to sleep. I also woke up very easily. Of course I turned out to not have depression in the first place so your mileage may vary. (The fatigue they were treating as depression was actually a liver problem, not known for responding well to SSRIs...)
