I went through a period in college that was particularly stressful
(relatives dying, heavy course-load, etc) and I would have an experience
like this about once a week for a month. Usually when I would doze in th
emiddle of the day. Then all of a sudden it got worse; my brain started
telling me I was under water when I would wake up like this.

Ever been under water and start entertaining thoughts that you don't
have enough oxygen in your system to reach the surface?
