Gel,

At the same time no pets to me would be a fairly lonely life. The heartache
comes at the end, but in the meantime there is a lot of joy and love that I
think more than makes up for it. You do not focus on the heartache, rather
the joy, the fun and all the other stuff that made up the life with that
animal. We've been associated with dogs for over 10,000 year, cats for about
3,000 and ferrets for about the same time, possibly longer. I think that we
may be all but wired for companion animals now.

Heartache is a part of everything. Does that mean because of the eventual
loss and some pain you give up on 10 years plus of unconditional love from
these animals. If you think so, then the more fool you.
