You should be able to run .NET stuff on Win2k.  Just install the .NET Framework.  And yes, you will be needing IIS to test out ASP.NET stuff.  The 5.0 version that comes with Win2K will work just fine.  If you are only writing WinForms or console apps, then you won't be needing IIS.
