We built thru a development (Ashwood Builders) so they were the only ones
allowed to do work in the house (insurance and warranty reasons). After what
paid out for upgrades, 11,500 for all hardwood flooring (wife and daughter
have allergies), 5800 for an oak stairway, 3400 for central AC and 2400 for
a 94% efficiency furnace, I got stubborn and wouldn't pay for the media pack
(999 three drops and one room audio) or the $125/drop.

The price ticked me off coz I could have done it myself at cost. I wish now
tho I had had them put one drop in the office upstairs. Oh well there is
lots of attic space so I may run one up inside the central cold air return
and bring it down inside the office wall. I have wireless router for the
laptop, which should reach the deck (when its done)

BTW for comparison, the house is 2270 sqft with 4 bed and 2 1/2  bath. With
upgrades the house cost us 337,000.

So hey - I have to ask - since you built the house from scratch, did you
make sure to add ethernet jacks in every room? :)
