Personally, I've gotten into a fight with every XP Home machine I've
tried to use.  But that's just me; YMMV.

I'm not saying that a Mac is *always* easier.  But my Mom isn't that
much of a fan of Windows, and so there's not so much of a transition
problem (except that she has to use it at work, and I think 2 OS's to
keep track of is 1 too many for her).

Mostly, though, I just think she'd find it aestetically more pleasing.
She'd *like* it better, not so much for any rational reason, but just
because.

Which, really, is good enough.
