I actually have been running CF Server 4.51 on Mandrake for about 3 months
now. I'm pretty new to Linux (although plenty of "user level" experience
with UNIX shells at universities) having installed my first distro late last
year. Initially, it wouldn't take at all with the goofy version of Apache
that's included with Mandrake 7.0. I ripped out the Mandrake RPMs and
grabbed the Red Hat Apache ones. I am using Apache 1.3.12. I have even be
too lazy to recompile with -DEAPI flag. So far, I get the relinking error
when I stop/start the CF server - but nothing aside from that. Admittedly,
the server is not being hammered and my code is probably relatively simple
(first major CF project) - but I've still yet to have it blowup in my face.
In fact my Linux box has been running solidly since I configured it (no
reboots) - which I certainly can't say for my "crash three times a day"
Coldfusion Studio Windows machine.
Here's a recommendation - Allaire should come up to speed on Mandrake. It
seems to be rapidly becoming the distro of choice for Linux newbies. Newbies
who might be more likely to use ColdFusion rather than PHP or Perl (the open
source choices). Personally, I opted for CF cus I was able to learn the
basics quickly, versus PHP and Perl which were more syntactically difficult.
Also, might be nice to include a compiled with -DEAPI RPM of Apache on the
CFServer CD - isn't this possible with open source?
my $.02,
Dan
