Jim,

Have you thought about Pervasive.SQL ?
Its a cross-platform database (not open source, but not expensive, either)
that runs on Linux, Solaris, Windows and Novell. You can talk to it using
the ODBC drivers that come with CF. It is very reliable and has features
that MySQL does not have such as transactions and stored procedues.
Check it out at www.pervasive.com

Regards,

GD

Subject: Solaris, CF and MySQL

We're working on a web re-design for a client whose current site is sitting
on a Solaris box (SunOS 5.6) We're planning on integrating some dynamic
content (using CF of course) and need to implement a database... My first
thought was MySQL - I know slashdot uses it and we're not going to be doing
anything beyond what they are doing so I thought it should work fine.

I'm wondering if I could setup a Linux box running MySQL and have the
Solaris box 'talk' to it - and would CF be happy in this environment or
would I be asking for trouble? :)

thanks!
jim
