VNC is used to view a graphical environment remotely -- if you ended up getting
displayed a command prompt you did something wrong. I have no idea what,
because that's never happened to me, but it isn't the fault of VNC.
If your workstation is a Linux box you'd be able to pull up GUI programs
remotely without the use of VNC by setting the DISPLAY variable on the server
and using 'xhost' to allow the server access to the local machine.
