Yep, that's definitely quite a large registry. As Tom already mentioned, you
really should have your client variables in a database, not in the
cf.registry flat file.

First thing you need to do though is get rid of most of what you already
have in the registry file. You can either try editing the file manually and
removing some of the client variables, or try using the script provided in
this kb: http://www.allaire.com/Handlers/index.cfm?ID=20340&Method=Full
