pretty much what I thought/feared - the machine is a 4/5 hour drive

but this would still run the risk of killing the SSH I guess ? Looks like
I'll have to sort it on my next visit I guess :(

One further question - I want to get GCC to link using the older libc file
rather than the linked one, is this possible ?
