Maybe the best way to get your head around how nifty XML or WDDX is would be
to do a small, quick and dirty little app where you need to get a set of
data from your server to a business partners server.  All without having to
have both parties have identicle db designs or schema mirrored on both
servers.

Data movement can be greatly simplified .... stylesheet and layout type
usage - I havent messed with.
