Hi All, I've been running a CF webserver on Linux for a little while now - we had lots of restarts/CF crashes at first and went through all the usual fixes (CFLOCK, client d/base etc) - this improved stability, we occasionally had problems but on the whole it was OK.
Recently the server load shot up (extensive site revamp) and the server started falling over a lot (the times didn't tie in with cfm files from the log as they used to) and for the 1st time we got the "stuck file in the mail spooler bug" which took the system out twice. One of the things the site was doing more of was cfmails (blocks of up to 8 mails simultanteously), so to solve the stuck file problem we came up with a plan as follows 1. My server runs sendmail which forwards on to our host's mail server - it's firewalled to stop undesirables :) 2. We replaced all cfmails with cfmymail (a custom tag) which writes a text file to the directory on the server in a format acceptable to sendmail 3. We run a cronjob every minute which scans those files, pushes them into sendmail and moves them elsewhere Now this will obviously work well for the stuck file problem (no chance of that anymore) - but it seems to have cleared up all the restarts we were having. The system was fine (no restarts) from the 18th May (when we patched it) until yesterday (we had a power cut). Another server we have uses qmail and we're implementing the same fix there. Hope this'll help someone or at least start some discussion My system is a PowerEdge 2450 dual P3-866's, 1 Gig RAM, Stock RH 7.2 with updates, CF5 Regards Phil Phil Watson Software Manager Enigma Interactive Tel. +44 (0)191 261 2991 Fax. +44 (0)191 261 2378 [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.enigma-interactive.co.uk 7-15 Pink Lane Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 5DW ______________________________________________________________________ Get the mailserver that powers this list at http://www.coolfusion.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/cf-linux%40houseoffusion.com/ To Unsubscribe visit http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=lists&body=lists/cf_linux or send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with 'unsubscribe' in the body.
