I am on vacation as of an hour ago, so I may not reply to this thread anymore, but
basically the error you are getting is related to the fact that wsconfig.jar is trying
to connect to the JRun proxy and it cannot.

Either A: Your entry in DNS does not match the hostname for the local machine, and
therefore the reverse lookup for the host is failing

IE: DNS entry for your IP = foo.bar.domain.com and your hostname is set to "bob" or
"some.other.entry".

Or B: You setup the Red Hat box with default options, which means
port-blocking/firewalling is turned on pretty heavy in the kernel, this makes it so
that the connector system cannot talk to the Proxy server as the ports are blocked.

Basically, WSconfig.Jar is trying to connect to the JRun proxy for further
configuration guidelines, and cannot.

The jre is the one installed by default with cfmx. No other jvm is on that
box that I know of. Also, per Dave Watts suggestion, I downloaded the CFMX
updater and tried again. I have more info now...here is the message that
comes back (any further help would be appreciated). Also, I know that a
limited version of jrun is installed with cfmx. I have NOT installed JRun
separately with this server.

[root@server1 /]# /opt/coldfusionmx/bin/coldfusion start
Starting Coldfusion MX...
There may be a few moments before you can access the Coldfusion MX
administrator. This is normal.

Easy way to check you java...
On the terminal console...

slocate bin/java
    >> The result is something like this...
/usr/java/j2re1.4.1_01/bin/java
/usr/java/j2re1.4.1_01/bin/java_vm
/opt/coldfusionmx/jre/bin/java
/opt/coldfusionmx/runtime/bin/java2wsdl
    >> basically that folder is the version if you installed a SUN or
something JVM. But to make sure.
/usr/java/j2re1.4.1_01/bin/java -version
    >>Returns somethign to the sorts of
java version "1.4.1_01"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_01-b01)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1_01-b01, mixed mode)

 >> BTW slocate section, second set CFMX directory is the cfinstaller's
version of java mostlikely 1.3.1
As long as the enviroment variables have been set CF should use the lastest
unless i am mistaken.
I am a linux nerd in the making havent figured everything out yet but
getting there!
