I've got the standalone version running just fine on apache2. I never got the connector to work with the installer, I always installed CF in standalone mode (internal web server), and then created the connector after the fact. I think the MM docs said that was a better route to go, someone did at least. Tried it all at once the first time, it failed, so I've been doing the two step process ever since.
