Interesting....  I'll attempt that route, but I don't believe I have
ever seen it in the documentation.  I understand that you simply select
stand alone server when installing CF- Do you just build the connector
from the wsconfig sources at that point?

It seems like I'm always able to get it run for a while, but making any
changes in Apache - or god forbid, adding a dynamic module - will cause
it to spin out of control.

I've got the standalone version running just fine on apache2.  I never
got the connector to work with the installer, I always installed CF in
standalone mode (internal web server), and then created the connector
after the fact.  I think the MM docs said that was a better route to go,
someone did at least.  Tried it all at once the first time, it failed,
so I've been doing the two step process ever since.
