Thanks for the pointer. A neat idea :)
But my bad for not elaborating on the purpose of that webpage i am creating. User's requirement is to restore from the last database backup if something goes wrong in the export of data. Hence, the page allows the user to select from a list of backups and perform a DB restoration . Upon clicking on the "Restore" button, it does a row insertion, which triggers off a plperlu function that calls a bash script to "psql -f 'filename'..." . But, it's a messy way and involves restarting the postmaster within the psql interface (which is not good).
The minimum one minute delay from the cronjob will definitely causes undue anxiety on the users :P (But, i will work on the cronjob perspective. Maybe they just might not notice the delay).
Preferably, i need the script to be called in real-time. Plan B is somehow the coldfusion would have tags that call bash commands.
Again, sincere thanks for all replies and advice.
warm regards,
siew hui
