Steve:
Since you seemed to have accidentally misquoted the error twice here, I'd
just like to point out that the error message was actually "gcc: command not
found", rather than file not found.  To me this seems a little more obvious.
I know from experience its very easy to misread error messages.  Even for
plain jane Linux installs its recommended to have gcc installed for
situations where software must be built from source on the local system
rather than from RPM or other package.

Me:
Indeed, I was quoting from memory. And (tongue-in-cheek) thanks for pointing
out further just how silly my problem was. Generally I'm the guy who gets
annoyed with people for not reading the full text of their error messages
before running off to find help. In this case I'd been working on the issue
for nearly 12 hours *and* read the error and still got it wrong. It is
slightly embarrasing only in that you have a point, the error (once a person
wasn't totally exhausted and hyper-focused) makes sense. Oi... oh well. It
works now.

Steve:
I once created a shell script based on those instructions in order to
facilitate backing up any existing connector and recompiling a new one with
-DEAPI, which was a minor issue when using Apache 1.3.x, found here:
http://www.talkingtree.com/blog/index.cfm?data="">

Me:
It's better than the old days where the connector came on the CD and you had
to know how to install it manually because the 4.0 CF Server installer
didn't actually config Apache FOR you.

Steve:
ColdFusion MX is already supported on Suse 7 and 8.  ColdFusion MX is not
supported on Suse 9.

Me:
And we know that it's supported on SuSE 7 and 8. A quick google on the
subject reveals a multitude of people trying to get it running on 9 (9
providing some substantial benefits in certain circumstances) and without
this procedure it just ain't happenin for them, supported or otherwise.
You'll note I never DID say it was supported. I said it runs. Forgive the
oversight in quoting the exact version on which it's not supported. It was 3
in the morning and I had a migraine.

Anyway, best regards...
