Dear all,

I would like to suggest new names for aerosol model intercomparisons in the frame works of AeroCom, HTAP and AC&C.

In this first email the optical property names are listed:

atmosphere_optical_thickness_due_to_black_carbon_ambient_aerosol
atmosphere_optical_thickness_due_to_particulate_organic_matter_ambient_aerosol
atmosphere_optical_thickness_due_to_secondary_particulate_organic_matter_ambient_aerosol
atmosphere_optical_thickness_due_to_nitrate_ambient_aerosol
atmosphere_optical_thickness_due_to_seasalt_ambient_aerosol
atmosphere_optical_thickness_due_to_dust_ambient_aerosol
atmosphere_optical_thickness_due_to_sulfate_ambient_aerosol
atmosphere_optical_thickness_due_to_water_in_ambient_aerosol

atmosphere_optical_thickness_due_to_biomass_burning_ambient_aerosol
(In the explanation it should be mentioned that this includes all aerosol caused by biomass burning, both primary and secondary aerosol)

atmosphere_optical_thickness_due_to_aerosol
This name is existing, but I think it is ambiguous. Therefore I would like to add two more names:
atmosphere_optical_thickness_due_to_ambient_aerosol
atmosphere_optical_thickness_due_to_dry_aerosol

atmosphere_optical_thickness_due_to_cloud
(In the explanation it should be mentioned that this refers to total cloud, i.e. both liquid water and ice clouds)

atmosphere_absorption_optical_thickness_due_to_ambient_aerosol
atmosphere_absorption_optical_thickness_due_to_dry_aerosol

atmosphere_extinction_optical_thickness_due_to_ambient_aerosol
atmosphere_extinction_optical_thickness_due_to_dry_aerosol

ambient_aerosol_angstrom_exponent
(aerosol_angstrom_exponent exists, but I think 'ambient' is needed.)

ambient_aerosol_asymmetry_parameter

atmosphere_attenuated_backscatter_due_to_ambient_aerosol

Best regards,
Christiane
