Ah, I found it soon after I'd sent the email! The one I'm thinking of is in Nativi et al 2008 (DOI 10.1007/s12145-008-0011-6). I think there may be other ways of expressing the CF data model though (and I think there are some small mistakes in the Nativi et al rendering). Has anyone produced any alternative representations?
