I would like to request the following new standard names and one
deprecation. I've attempted to give definitions that are consistent with
related names in the table.
1. land_ice_mass_accumulation_rate (m s-1)
"Land ice" means glaciers, ice-caps and ice-sheets resting on bedrock
and also includes ice-shelves. The accumulation rate is the rate at
which ice is added per unit area at the land ice surface.
2. runoff_rate (m s-1)
Runoff is the liquid water which drains from land. If not specified,
"runoff" refers to the sum of surface runoff and subsurface drainage.
The runoff rate is the rate at which water is lost per unit area.
3. land_ice_basal_altitude (m)
"Land ice" means glaciers, ice-caps and ice-sheets resting on bedrock
and also includes ice-shelves. Altitude is the (geometric) height above
the geoid, which is the reference geopotential surface. The geoid is
similar to mean sea level. Basal altitude is the altitude of the base of
the ice.
4. land_ice_thickness_excluding_firn (m)
"Land ice" means glaciers, ice-caps and ice-sheets resting on bedrock
and also includes ice-shelves. "Firn" means partially-compacted snow on
the land ice surface. "Thickness" means the vertical extent of a layer.
Land ice thickness excluding firn means thickness of only the land ice
and not the firn layer.
5. firn_thickness (m)
"Firn" means partially-compacted snow on the land ice surface.
"Thickness" means the vertical extent of a layer. Firn thickness means
thickness of the firn layer.
6. land_ice_and_firn_thickness (m)
"Land ice" means glaciers, ice-caps and ice-sheets resting on bedrock
and also includes ice-shelves. "Firn" means partially-compacted snow on
the land ice surface. "Thickness" means the vertical extent of a layer.
Land ice and firn thickness means the total thickness of land ice and
the firn layer.
7. land_ice_and_firn_thickness_expressed_as_ice_equivalent (m)
"Land ice" means glaciers, ice-caps and ice-sheets resting on bedrock
and also includes ice-shelves. "Firn" means partially-compacted snow on
the land ice surface. "Thickness" means the vertical extent of a layer.
Land ice and firn thickness expressed as ice equivalent means the total
thickness of land ice and the firn layer if the firn were converted to ice.
I would like to propose that land_ice_thickness be deprecated due to
vagueness.
