@hrajagers I agree that there is a useful case that should be able to be handled here. As CF now recognises CRS WKT for CRS definitions, then I think this will be neatly handled with the proposed change. CRS WKT provides the capability to define an engineering CRS, independent of the earth or a similar body.
Thus, to meet the requirements in the case where the coordinates are not geographic in nature, specify a `grid mapping` to a CRS definition in WKT that describes an Engineering CRS.
