Dear Dave Maybe you'd do it like that if we were starting from scratch, but we aren't. We have to bear in mind the needs of users of the convention who write their own ad-hoc code. I would rather stick to our usual principle of not adding new possibilities in the convention unless there is a strong use-case, and even more so in situations, like this, when there is already an encoding that works fine. I'm sorry if that seems frustratingly conservative, but I believe it's a principle that has worked well for CF. There have been plenty of occasions when we've decided not to add a new way of doing something because we already have a satisfactory although less attractive way to do it.
