@JimBiardCics : I'm sorry, I don't see how the fact that [you thought about it two years ago](https://github.com/cf-convention/cf-conventions/issues/148#issuecomment-436760085) helps us here. I'm suggesting a means of dealing with your stated use case, because I can see some merit in dealing with the use case and you have not addressed the objections raised against your proposal.
